Turning 85

This morning I was thinking about my mom and one of the many favors I’m likely to ask her. She’s smart and helpful. I’m lucky like that. Turns out that she was also thinking of me.

She sent me a few pictures that made me smile. The first four might make their own blog post later. The last picture was of a smiling, white haired man in from of a blazing birthday cake.

My grandfather, Poppie, just celebrated his 85th birthday. To say that he is an inspiration to me and our family in underselling it.

I remember growing up and asking my mom and dad if I could call him on phone. We would talk for hours.

We were always good at chatting. This has continued even today, even though busy schedules and living in opposite hemispheres make it a little more difficult.

This great man just had a birthday and I wasn’t there to help him celebrate. But he is with me. He is in the lessons I have learned growing up. And I even see him in my son’s smiling face.

Happy birthday, Poppie. I love you.
